Flat share in Frankfurt on the Main – the city of books, banks and brokers
Are you looking for glassy chic and historical architecture with lots of green and water? How about adding in loads of culture; preferably of an international kind? If so, we can tell you where you should be moving to: Frankfurt on the Main.
Once upon a time Frankfurt used to be the domicile of emperors and kings. Over the years though the former imperial stronghold changed and has become the banking metropolis of Europe. More than 30 banks are based in Frankfurt. Furthermore, there are numerous insurance companies and financial institutions. These institutions account for whole quarters of the city. But of course there’s more to discover than the banking skyscrapers. For example, we’d like to tell you about another superlative: the biggest book fair of Germany. Each year in October, thousands of publishers, authors, publishing houses and of course bookworms are drawn to the Hessian metropolis. But this isn’t the only big event taking place on these almost 600,000 square meters. More than 50 fairs, attracting national as well as international guests, are held on these premises annually. That makes having a flat share in Frankfurt absolutely worthwhile. To make a long story short, my dear, who needs Berlin when you’ve got Frankfurt?!
Everyday life and diversion
Playing the role of a university city, Frankfurt is also home to many colleges and universities offering a diverse range of opportunities for both your studies and practical work experience. Although it’s pretty obvious that there’s much focus placed on business management and finance, Frankfurt also boasts two art colleges! If you need a break from your daily university obligations or working routine, we can recommend doing sports. How about doing something unusual: stair climbing! The banking skyscrapers are absolutely suitable for that. The Maintower, for example, has 1029 steps on 56 floors. Once you reached the observation platform on top, you can enjoy an amazing and breathtaking view over the whole city. It’s an ideal place for a breather or for getting some inspiration for your next trip. For all those who are into cycling, the regular cycle race on May 1 is a necessity. Apart from that, an Ironman and also a marathon take place in the metropolis where amateur sportsmen and professional athletes can compete.
Leisure time in Frankfurt
Next to the great events taking place at the exposition and the major airport, you’ll also find great places to relax in Frankfurt. Take, for instance, a walk along the banks of the Main or better yet, taking a break underneath the beautifully bloomed cherry trees in the spring. A lovely promenade, parks, many bridges and especially the green bank of the Main are very inviting for a stroll. Along this route, you’ll find many museums, giving it the nickname of Museumsufer (museum bank). You can choose between 15 different museums, which are very close to the Main. If you’d like to learn something about the history of the city of Frankfurt and dive into past times, you should go to the Historic Museum. There you can discover a vast number of historic relicts - from the medieval pompous symbols of power of the emperors and kings to a model of the old town in the middle of the last century. In our opinion, this is a wonderful place for everyone who is interested in history. In case the municipal history doesn’t really bother you but if you still feel like experiencing culture, you’ll find the right museum for sure. It may be films, art, culture, architecture, football, science and so on. In springtime a visit at the Frankfurt Zoo is totally worth it. It was opened in 1858 which makes it the second-oldest animal park of Germany. Located in the city, close to the center, it serves as a green oasis between all the banking buildings. 500 different species and more than 4500 animals live there. The Exotarium is especially worth seeing. The biodiversity there ranges from the Arctic Ocean to the Amazon; penguins, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects can be found in a nearly natural environment. In the section of the Australian fresh water crocodiles, a real tropical storm is created twice a day. Apart from the mentioned attractions, a giant giraffe statue, the pets corner, markets, special exhibitions and individual tours will make your visit exciting. And your well-being concerning food is also guaranteed, just pop in one of the restaurants or beer gardens on site. So maybe a visit to the zoo might be a good opportunity to show your family the green sides of Frankfurt, if they come for a visit.
Partying and going out
Living in Frankfurt will be a joy! After a stressful day, get ready to enjoy the evenings in your new home. You can relax with your housemates and exchange enriching life experiences or go out and catch a classical theater production, a musical or even a variety show. Frankfurt’s got a vibrant club and bar scene which is made even more unique by its 8 million tourists every year so you won’t have to spend your nights only busy with sleep or studying. Friends of R ‘n’ B sounds and fancy interior might like the SKY club. However, the proper Frankfurt-feeling needs to be absorbed in a neighborhood bar, like the “Gute Stute” (Good Mare). In the cozy atmosphere many locals meet around the tables made of beer barrels. The seats are hanging down from a chairoplane and there’s even a life-size stuffed animal in the bar - really worth visiting. And of course opera and theater lovers get their money’s worth. In the Opera House Frankfurt both classic and modern plays are offered as well as rarely presented plays, song recitals and chamber music. The Old Opera House Frankfurt has existed since the 19th century in the city. However, operas in the classical sense aren’t performed there anymore. Nowadays it’s a location for concerts and events in which also congresses and conventions are hold. The representative halls give every event a special flair. You’d rather go to a theater? In “Die Komödie” (The Comedy) boulevard plays and comedies with theater stars are performed. For brushing up your English skills in a culturally entertaining way, the English Theatre is the place to be. As the name indicates, English plays are on there which are easy to understand also for non-native speakers. Furthermore, a poetry slam is an integral part of the program. Round your day off while enjoying a chilled drink in the in-house bar after the performance. If it’s dark already, we got another recommendation for you: The Frankfurt Skyline at night. It’s an uncomparable light show - even Munich can’t keep up with it.
Go for the perfect flat share
As you can see, the common grey image of Germany’s financial capital deviates from reality. Green oases and sufficient room for recreation can be found here, too. Apart from that, you can party at least as good as in Berlin, Munich or Hamburg. Now the only questions that remains is when you’re going to move into your furnished flat share room in Frankfurt. We’d like to welcome you here as soon as possible! The earlier you’re here, the more you’ll see of course.
